SuperCar Trackday Member Review
Dreams do come true… They sure did Friday May 18th at Firebird Race Track. Van Horssen Group brought 15 extraordinary members together with 6 exclusive and exotic cars to create one unforgettable day. Attention to detail was unparalleled. Personally, I can’t remember having that much fun with my ‘pants on’ since landing on an Aircraft Carrier.
Oh what a feeling to drive a collection of cars that allows you to discover the child in yourself for 6 hours. I was ecstatic most every minute of the day. Discovering the cars every time around the track was a new experience, mostly because I was so inconsistent. But all the cars had there plus’s and minus’s.
Noisiest car goes to the Gallardo. It has that glorious sound that is only created by the rhythmic whine of a precision twin overhead cam motor at 8000+ RPM. But just like a Bull, it made me take the reins in every turn to get it to turn smoothly. I am blaming it on the 4-wheel drive. lol…

An American made Corvette Z-06 was one of my favorites. I got to see how fast I was going down the straightaway though the ‘Heads-up’ display on the windshield. I thought I was flying jets in the Navy again. So much raw power.

Most unforgiving car goes to that Ford GT. She has plenty of power too, so I got to stay in 2nd gear most all around the track due to BIG torque. The back end got out a little once, so only a few laps around the track was enough for me.
And then the Porsches. There is no substitute, right? Firmly held into that fine leather, you know what these cars are all about. Dull goes to the Turbo, it was never up and ready when I needed it. I don’t think I know how to drive a Turbo… Best surprise goes to the Cayman S. I had SOOOOO much fun driving that car around the track. It is such a nicely mannered young stud for the Porsche livery.

And my favorite had to go to the Porsche GT3. Except for the spin out, I had a mostly unspoiled experience with this one. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Fortunately or unfortunately, however you look at it, we got it all on video with this car. I can’t wait to show friends the in-car camera DVD. Check out the video produced by Velocity Racing:
A huge "Thank You" goes to everybody involved for all the countless hours that it must have taken to make that happen. It was a most memorable event. I can’t wait till we do this again.
