Farewell Ford GT

Blog Entry

Being around so many exceptional cars I get spoiled. I’m reminded of this every time someone asks me about some $200k+ car and I shrug with a “it’s nice.” But when anyone brings up the Ford GT, they are immediately my friend and I start spouting the triumphs and tribulations of this great car.
Ford GT

Of all the cars in the Van Horssen Group collection, this one stands on its own in many ways. Perhaps the first is when I list the typical cars in the collection…Aston, Bentley, Ferrari, um, FORD, Lamborghini, etc.…no offense meant to Ford but they are not usually mentioned in the same breath as these other premium car manufacturers.

Or when I am introducing a member to the car…Any high performance vehicle can be dangerous, but the Ford GT is a beast and can get you into real trouble really fast if you are not careful. I spend more time preparing someone to drive the Ford GT than any other car. And it is not just the fact that it has no traction control, can reach 61mph in first gear and a top speed of 205mph. The trickiest part of the Ford GT may be parking. Many a person has the mark of the Ford GT on their head, that painful crack on the extended edge of the door if you do not open it fully.

When you are on the right road (or track) the car performs like no other. It is as close to a race car as I have ever felt in a road car. Acceleration feels like you are taking off in a jet and cornering as if on rails.

Van Horssen Group has offered some very cool cars in our few years of business, but I must say the Ford GT may be one of the coolest yet. I am sad to see it go, but am consoled somewhat by the fact that one of our members bought it. Not only did he get a great price but I know he will take good care of it and I may even get to see it on occasion.
